NWFL Championship: “We Needed To Set Down A Marker” – Coach Nelly Speaks After Imo Strikers Big Win

Imo Strikers

Imo strikers did set down a marker in their first game of the ongoing NWFL 2024/25 Championship to echo head coach Nelly’s words post match, pummeling Heroes Queens at the U.J. Esuene Stadium.

Harmony Chidi and precious Oscar dismantled Heroes shaky defense, going up 5 goals at the hour break to give coach Nelly tutored side the deserved lead having obviously been the better side with their rhythmic play and exchange of fluid passes.

The pair did continue their blooming partnership upon resumption in the second half, adding up two more goals to place themselves firmly on top of Group B one.

Speaking after the game, head coach Nelly admitted that they needed to begin on a strong footing ahead of the crucial game vs host team Pelican Stars.

“I’m so grateful to God for the result, we came out and didn’t look down on any team and what better way to hit the ground running ahead of tough match up tomorrow”.

“Our next game is one of the toughest game we will encounter in this tournament and I will urge my girls to come out for it because I know it’s not going to be an easy game for us.

“We will put all our efforts to the success of the game tomorrow”, she added.

Match continues at the same venue as first Mahi Babes take on Castmog Ladies.

Elsewhere at the St. Patrick College, Ibom Angels FC defeated Papa Soccer 3-0 as Unification FC and Delta Babes battle it out for the second game of the day.
