After the 34th edition of TotalEnergies CAF AFCON came to an end, attention turned to the upcoming edition. The TotalEnergies CAF AFCON Morocco 2025 preliminary draw is set for Tuesday, February 20, 2024 in Cairo, Egypt.
The eight (8) lowest-ranked teams in the FIFA rankings—Somalia, Djibouti, Sao Tome, Chad, Mauritius, South Sudan, Liberia, and Eswatini—will compete in the preliminary round of the TotalEnergies CAF AFCON Morocco 2025.
The games will be contested during the FIFA Window, which runs from March 18–26, 2024, both at home and away. For the group stage, the 44 teams that were exempted will be joined by the four (4) preliminary round champions.
52 teams are set to be engaged in the next Africa Cup of Nations. The less 8 ranked teams in the FIFA ranking will play the preliminary round and the remaining 44 teams will be exempted and will play directly in the group stage.
It will be a knock out system from home and away matches for the less 8 qualified teams in the FIFA ranking and the 4 winners of the preliminary round in addition to the 44 exempted teams will play the group stage.
The 1st ball drawn from pot 1 will play against the 1st ball drawn from Pot 2 and the teams of Pot 1 will play
the 1st leg at home. The same process will be repeated for the remaining teams in pot 1 & 2.
