Olagunju Saheed – Nigeria Descent Youngster Walking In Sergio Ramos, John Terry’s Footprint

Olagunju Saheed who is a left-sided central defender for Chelsea Under-18 is setting admirable goals for himself, one which would take determination and grit to achieve but modelling his path in the strides of John Terry and Sergio Ramos is indeed a show of how high he aims in his football career.

Having joined the Blues from Charlton Athletic as an Under-12, the youngster who became a full-time scholar in the summer of 2023 is a confident player, he defends the box effectively and is technically proficient in playing out from the back while also showcasing excellent leadership skills just like his idols.

Picking Sergio Ramos in his prime and Antonio Rudiger away from Chelsea as his favourite defenders as they are both unbelievable players. Here at Chelsea, Thiago Silva and John Terry are definitely blueprints of the modern day defender for Olagunju Saheed.

Not alone, he has the duo of Nigeria descent stars helping in his growth in head coach Hassan Sulaimon and teammate Somtochukwu Boniface as SpeedysportsNG shines their torch on the defender as their pick of the weekly players’ spotlight focus.

In quick reference to the Teenage Kicks session with the club’s Academy, Olagunju shared his off-field activities, his time at Chelsea and his outmost desire to impress by continuing to do the hard work, which he believes will pay off.

On his biggest motivation as a defender – “I love winning the ball in challenges and duels. A goal-saving tackle is equivalent to scoring from 40 yards out. I think I also love that I am able to step-in and win the ball through timely interceptions. I also love the opportunity to play long diagonals”.
