NNL – Abia Comets FC Defeat Beyond Limits FA To Secure First Win Of The Season

Jonah James and Chinatu Eluwa were both on the score sheet as Abia Comets FC picked a comfortable 2-0 victory over Beyond Limits in the Nigeria National League (NNL) Southern Conference Group A Matchday 2 encounter on Saturday.

The clash which took place at the Umuahia Township Stadium saw massive fans turnout to cheer the team to their first NNL victory of the season.

It was a brilliant home coming for the host as they dominated the first 25 minutes of the game by creating most of the goal scoring opportunities with centre back Churchill Nnanna who came close to breaking the deadlock twice with a long range effort from a free kick saw his strike saved by the visitors goalkeeper Emmanuel Olisa.

However, Comets goalkeeper Chibueze Lambert came alive in the game with a world class save to deny Olamilekan Adegboyega a goal for Beyond Limits in the 35th minute.

The atmosphere heightened up when Abia Comets FC took the lead through a sublime goal by Jonah James, heading home a delightful cross from Akpan Mfreke in the 45+2 minutes as the Okechukwu Ejeh side went into the half time break with a 1-0 lead.

In the second half, the host made couple of substitutions to put more force to the team with the introduction of Chinatu Eluwa, Chinedu Nwankpa who replaced Jonah James and Akpan Mfreke before the restart of the game.

Douglas Bueka, who had a man of the match performance also came close to double the host lead in the 56th minute but his low strike went behind the cross bar for a Beyond Limit goal kick.

Chinatu then scored with a late minute effort to double the lead 2-0 when he slotted home a John Kelechi delightful free kick in the 63th minute as Comets secured the victory which was their first of the season.

The victory would be as a morale booster for Abia Comets ahead of nextweek Friday Matchday 3 encounter against Madiba FC at the Mobolaji Johnson Stadium, Lagos.

It was also a massive day for the supporters that was present during the game as some were selected as the lucky winners of the club’s special features and raffle draws.

Some of the selected fans were presented Brand New Phones, club branded polo and cap.

The special features and raffle draws will continue for the next two Abia Comets FC home games.
