Greg Vanney Wants To Stay “Unbeaten” Ahead Of El Trafico Derby

Los Angeles Galaxy have started off their 2024 MLS season in fine form and the early signs are pleasing to coach Greg Vanney.

The Galaxy have won three and drawn three of their opening six games to sit atop the Western Conference table thanks to the accumulation of twelve points from a possible eighteen.

Following their hard fought 1-0 victory over Seattle Sounders, the first since 2018, the coach of the side is now confident their achievements this season are limitless.

“I feel like just the energy around the club in the offseason with the additions of the guys that we got and the injection of some pace and just some individual quality, there brings some excitement,” Vanney said post-match against Seattle Sounders.

“Every time we touch the ball something can happen.” He muted.

“When I looked at our schedule, to be honest with you, at the start of the season I thought, ‘S**t this is going to be a really difficult start to the season’,” Vanney said. “In our own way, we’ve managed each of these [games] to get something out of them, which has been special.”

Next on the schedule is a tough one against cross city rivals Los Angeles FC in a week seven encounter on Saturday.

The BMO Stadium will be left agog come Saturday as the reigning Western Conference champions host the leaders of the pack in the current season.

“We want to stay there, so that’s the challenge,” Vanney said of the Galaxy’s spot atop the Western Conference table. “We want to stay unbeaten. We want to stay at the top. We’re going and playing our rivals [in] a highly emotional contest and we look forward to these challenges.” He said ahead of the crucial derby.

It should be recalled that Los Angeles Galaxy missed out on the playoffs last season where Los Angeles FC emerged champions of the west.
