Kathrin Peter, Germanys’ head coach has admitted how lucky there were following her team’ 3-1 victory against Falconets of Nigeria to seal knock-out spot at the ongoing FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia.

Two goals in the final half-hour steered three-time champions Germany to a 3-1 victory over Nigeria in their FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup Group D clash at the Estadio Metropolitano de Techo in Bogota on Wednesday night.

“It was a really tough match today. That was expected, but we actually had big problems in defence. They had a few chances where we had the necessary luck, we have to admit that”. But in the second half we were really good and asserted our dominance and I think we deserved to win in the end”, Kathrin Peter posited in her post game assessments.

Nigeria can take pride in challenging the three-time FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup winners. Okwuchukwu posed many difficult questions for the opponents. She nearly scored a spectacular goal, netted a tap-in, had another goal disallowed, and caused trouble for the Germans with her speed and skill.

Germany has now triumphed in their last four FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup encounters against Nigeria.

Alex Popp led the way with a 2-0 victory in the 2010 final, while Lena Petermann clinched the win in extra time four years later. In 2018, Stefanie Sanders was the only scorer in their group match.

This marks Nigeria’s third defeat in their last 24 group matches at the tournament.

Okwuchukwu is likely to keep her spot for the must win upcoming match against Venezuela who shared the spoils with Korea.
