The Nigerian sports minister has expressed his delight at the appointment of Finidi George.
The ex international was officially unveiled as the new Super Eagles coach on Monday morning at the media centre of the National Stadium in Abuja.
The Port Harcourt born gaffer is the first indigenous coach since Sunday Oliseh and the minister has expressed his delight at his appointment.
“Any country I find an indigenous coach sitting on the bench, I always feel very proud and I am glad that we have an opportunity that have a Nigerian coach, Finidi George, as football men national team coach,” John Enoh said during the unveiling.
Finidi George himself went on to state that the national team will be open only to players playing actively for their clubs.
His first assignment will be a World Cup 2026 qualifying game against South Africa.
