Rita Chikwelu having completed the summer switch to Al Shabab from Spanish club FC Levante, the Super Falcons wasted no time in announcing her arrival in Saudi Arabia, bagging a brace on her debut.
Chikwelu transferred from the Spanish Iberdrola side Levante Las Planas to join the White Lions in Saudi Arabia just last week and was immediately handed her debut in the team’s 4-3 loss against Orthodox.
Before quitting the national team at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in 2022, she had participated in the FIFA U-20 World Cup from 2004 to 2008 and made her senior debut at the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2007.
She was a member of the Nigerian Olympic team which participated in the 2008 Summer Olympics in China and a member of the Nigerian squad in the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Having missed out of the just concluded 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, the 35-year-old footballer who had previously played for clubs in Finland and Sweden put the failure to make Randy Waldrum’s Super Falcons squad to continue her journey in football with this new chapter.
