Super Falcons defender, Ashleigh Plumptre has shared her disappointment on missing out of the Paris 204 Olympics after being ruled out due to injury which she sustained while on club duty with Al-Ittihad W in Saudi Arabia.
Earlier this week, head coach Randy Waldrum rolled out his squad for the Paris event where Nigeria will return to the Women football tournament after 16 years absence as Rasheedat Ajibade, Oshoala, Nnadozie leads host of top selected players.
Ashleigh shared her disappointment missing out on what could be a potential Olympics debut while also wishing the team the best as they look to compete against top guns.
She shared: “Timings haven’t aligned to be in contention for the Olympic roster – a dream I’ve held since I can remember”.
“Since having my surgery, I’ve worked in every area of my life to be in the best position to recover, but one thing I’ve learnt is how to really listen to my body”.
“While on a personal note it’s a shame to miss out, I cannot put into words my excitement and pride in knowing I’ll be watching my Super Falcons girls representing this flag on the Olympic stage”.
“Go well, girls! Naija to the world!”.
The team is scheduled to depart Sevilla for France on Thursday, 18th July.
Nine-time African champions Nigeria, who are making their first appearance at the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament for the first time since 2008 in China, will tackle Brazil, Spain and Japan, in that order, at this year’s tournament.
