The final four teams left to compete for the two slots set aside for Africa in the Paris 2024 Olympics have been announced.
The last four countries vying for a spot in Paris later this year are Morocco, Nigeria, South Africa, and Zambia—interestingly, the four nations that represented Africa in the most recent FIFA Women’s World Cup.
In a two-leg match, the Super Falcons defeated Cameroon 1-0 to advance to the next round, and South Africa, the defending African champions, defeated Tanzania 4-0 overall to set up a matchup with Nigeria.
Ghana and Ghana were engaged in a thrilling clash on Wednesday night.
After a narrow 1-0 victory away, the Copper Queens hosted the Black Queens in Ndola. The Zambians advanced 4-3 on aggregate thanks to a late goal by the invincible Barba Banda, giving them a 3-3 draw.
Morocco defeated Tunisia 4-1 in a match that took place in North Africa after they had previously defeated their opponents 2-1 in Tunis a few days prior. Morocco, who qualified for their first FIFA World Cup in the most recent edition, is now well-positioned to accomplish another worldwide competition qualification milestone as a result of the outcome as they look to compete at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
South Africa and Nigeria will play in the final round of qualifiers, and Zambia and Morocco will play two-leg matches from April 1–9, 2024.
Nigeria’s Falcons who last featured at the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament in Australia in 2000, Greece in 2004 and China in 2008, but have not qualified since their outing in China 16 years ago.
