Once again the question of the level of officiating at the ongoing 2024/25 NWFL Championship in Calabar has been asked by Tobi Oyekan following Unification FC controversial loss to Ibom Angels.
The Lagos State club fell to a 3-1 loss against the Akwa Ibom outfit at the St. Patrick College Stadium.
Not leaving any stone unturned during his press conference, Tobi Oyekan vented his anger and displeasure at how unfair his team was treated, lauding his girls’ brave fight.
“The honest truth is that we did not deserve to lose this game, we conceded an own goal but let me start from saying that we need to be fair in whatever we are doing. One of the goals scored was through a foul”, he bemoaned.
“Our center back was hit deliberately in which the center referee saw it and waived play on despite seeing the girl being kicked from behind. It’s quiet unfortunate to see things like this happening”.
“It was a one sided game and anyone that watched the game can testify to that. We might be unlucky but officials must not complicate our issues. We played well and to me, we won the game. We were a bit unlucky and then the officials contributed to our loss”, he explained further.
On his plan for the next game, he stated: “Each game comes with different approach and our next game isn’t against Ibom but another team so definitely, we will review this game and then the first game as well and work on our weaknesses as well as build more on our strength”, he vowed.
