Pelican Stars perfect run in the ongoing 2024/25 NWFL Championship continues after picking a hard fought win against Castmog Ladies at at the U.J. Eusene Stadium to put their NWFL Premiership top-flight promotion ambitions on track.
The win comes at the back of a hard fought but controversial 2-0 victory against Honey Badgers where the NFF has since sanctioned the officials who took charge of the game over some unprofessional calls.
Captain Perpetual Ndekani gave her side the lead in the 6th minute through a beautiful lob, tipping the ball beyond the reach of the on-rushing goalkeeper.
A second was added in the 16th minute, just ten minutes away from the first goal through Favour Bassey much to the excitement and roar of the home fans at the stadium.
Pelican Stars then took another touch of determination against a lackadaisical Castmog, grabbing their third after Nancy Njimogu took a brilliant shot very close to the edge of the box which rifles to the left hand side of the net, beyond the gloves of the goalkeeper.
They headed into half-time with a deserved 3-0 lead.
Both sides pushed for more upon second half resumption and it was Castmog Ladies who got a goal of their own in the 73rd and 77th minute through Odeyiola Itunuoluwa and Nnaji Ngozi.
With the score now on 3-2 a rejuvenated Catmog pushed harder for a third, a nerve cracking encounter with the fans set in uproar as the Ogun State club dominated the most part of the second half.
The score ended 3-2 following just a minute additional time with Castmog Ladies left ruing their slow start and wasted chances.
Meanwhile, at the St. Patrick Stadium, Chosen Generation Angels fell to a narrow 2-3 loss to Delta Babes in a highly contested game.
