Not the best of decision Imo Strikers would have wished for in their crucial second game of the NWFL 2024/25 Championship against host Pelican Stars at the U.J. Eusene Stadium as they saw a goal ruled out for offside.
The game which attracted host of fans was full of intensity from the blast of the whistle until the very end with host team up by two goals before the end of the first half.
Imo Strikers did have a host of chances in the second half but their breakthrough came when Precious Oscar took a powerful low shot just outside the box to put her team back into the team.
The defining moment came when their goal was ruled out for offside much to the anger of Coach Nelly’s tutored side. The final whistle saw the coach and team manager questioning the organizers and the level of officiating despite the league body commitment that everyone would have a free and fair competition in the pre-match meetings.
Coach Nelly who refused interview with the media bitterly vented her frustrations, demanding that all the video of the chalked off goal should be replayed to her as they look to know what step to take after the obvious injustice done to them.
This isn’t the first of similar situation the competition has seen since the competition began yesterday, Dreamstar Ladies game against Honey Badgers was marred by the mix-up from the officiating referee who ended the game earlier than expected, the team did come up to resume play after she has blown the final whistle to play the remaining four minutes of the game.
Dreamstars were hard done when an obvious foul wasn’t called and it led to them conceding another goal as they ran out eventual winners.
Fans have questioned the decisions as matches continues. Although, it remains unknown if the league body would address this situation or sanction the referees involved.
