The 2024/25 NWFL Championship in Calabar which is gradually nearing a conclusion with the grand finale set for today is gradually taking shape after Heroes Queens, Chosen Generations edged Dreamstar Ladies, Kaduna Queens to maintain their Championship status.
Heroes Queens who held host Pelican Stars to a thrilling 2-2 draw in their last game came into the game full of confidence knowing that they have all to play for as they look to retain their Championship Status despite been debutants.
The first half was indeed full of intense action but both sides were unable to break the dreadlock after the 45 minutes half time game.
Umejiaku Ebube who has been the heartbeat of Heroes Queens attack got on the scoresheet in the 55th minute, 15 mins on from second half resumption, playing a low shot beyond the reach of the goalkeeper to give Azeez Mustapha’s led side the lead.
Both sides pushed on to the very end but it was Heroes Queens that ended up the eventual winner all thanks to Umejiaku Ebube’s second half strike.
Elsewhere at the St Patrick College venue, Chosen Chosen Generation Angels edged Kaduna Queens in a tightly contested 0-1 affair to seal their safety, condemning the Northern Ladies to their fifth consecutive loss of the NWFL Championship.
With the two relegated teams now confirmed, the NWFL Premiership contest between Ibom Angels against Osun Babes, Pelican Stars and Honey Badgers will then take central stage at the U.J Eusene Stadium much to the fanfare of dignitaries and a roaring home crowd.
