NWFL Championship: Azeez Mustapha Rues Heroes Queens Hard-luck After Castmog Defeat

Heroes Queens

Heroes Queens have suffered their second defeat of the ongoing 2024/25 NWFL Championship after falling to a narrow loss to Castmog Ladies in a tightly contested game at the U.J Eusene Stadium.

Their first loss came against Imo Strikers yesterday, falling to a 7-0 defeat in their very first game as a debutant.

The Lagos State based Ladies were done by hard-luck following some mix up in their defense after a shot which was initially saved by the goalkeeper was not properly tidied up by the defense, leaving Castmog attacker with the easiest of effort to tap the ball into the roof of the net.

Both sides did press for more but unfortunately, it was Castmog that added a second from the corner kick to take their tally to two.

Castmog recorded their first three points of the competition while Heroes wait for their first point and the first goal of the Championship continues.

“We started the game very well as you can see that the first half was so close and the tactical shape was maintained but when you concede a first goal, there’s always a possibility that you will concede a second”, a disgruntled Azeez Mustapha stated in his post match assessment.

“The game plan wasn’t followed to details, our chances wasn’t taken and when the chance came for the opponent, they took it”, he explained further.

On what’s next for the team following a consecutive defeat; “We have serious work to do now if we are going to make anything worthwhile from this competition”.

“It’s a game that we thought that we could win and when you lose such kind of games, the morale would be dampened but it’s our job to raise the morale and prepare them for the next game against Pelican Stars in few days time and that’s the job we have to do”.

Up next is the game against host Pelican Stars as match continues today at both centers.
