Dominating force A’ja Wilson of the Las Vegas Aces etched her name in WNBA history, becoming the first player to record a stat line of 35 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 steals in a single game. Now, she’s on track to shatter another record by potentially achieving the highest scoring season in WNBA history.
The Las Vegas Aces defeated the Dallas Wings 95-81 to improve their record to 5-2 overall and 1-0 in the Commissioner’s Cup with A’ja Wilson leading the Aces with a season-high 36 points, 12 rebounds, and 6 steals.
Kelsey Plum and Jackie Young also chipped in with 20 and 19 points, respectively. Arike Ogunbowale scored a team-high 31 points for the Wings in the losing effort.
The Aces exploded out of the gate with a dominant 9-0 run, turning a tie game into a commanding 11-2 lead. This surge propelled them to a lead as high as 18 points in the first period.
Their 29 points in the quarter tied their season-high for points in the opening stanza (achieved on May 14th against Phoenix). A’ja Wilson was nearly a one-woman wrecking crew, scoring 14 points on a blistering 7-for-8 shooting from the field.
The Aces’ defense was stifling, holding Dallas to a meager 25% shooting from the field, including a dreadful 16.7% from three-point range. To top it off, they dominated the paint, outscoring the Wings 18-4 and making an impressive 11 of their 13 shots inside the arc.
In their next game, the Las Vegas Aces will face off against the Seattle Storm.
Meanwhile, the Dallas Wings take on the Los Angeles Sparks but it is the Aces that will have a tough matchup with the Storm coming up on Friday, while the Wings look to bounce back against the Sparks.
