CAFCC – Remo Stars forward, Aniekeme Okon has bemoaned Remo Stars early exit in the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League following a penalty shoot-out loss to Medeama SC, admitting that the they were just so unlucky despite their fight back.
Remo Stars were thrown out of the 2022/23 TotalEnergies CAF Champions League despite a late comeback as Medeama SC downs debutant in thrilling penalty shoot out at Ikenne after the Sky Blue Stars lost 1-0 in the first leg of the encounter with the Ghanian Champions.
Daniel Ogunmodede’s side had turned the deficit in the dying minutes of the encounter to stretch the game until the very end although Remo Stars were denied a second goal after it was controversially ruled out for offside.
The game then went on penalty shoot out after the 1-0 result in regulation time but Medeama SC displayed their superiority with a 2-3 victory to progress onto the next round.
Assessing the team’s bitter defeat in an exclusive interview with Sports247.ng, Okon lamented their hard luck in a cold admittance that the loss was a painful one for the team to accept.”Not that we lacked experience, the team is full of bunch’s talents that all have experience in as much football is concerned. It’s just that we were unlucky in the spot-kick,” he stated.
“Actually I feel bad at the moment about myself because I lost the spot kick too and here in camp everyone is trying to be fine. It’s going to be a gradual recovery.”
“Medeama SC were just lucky to scale through with the aid of the center referee who cancelled the 94th minute goal but we won’t deal on that much long, the next thing right now is to go back to the field and work hard and get ready for the league season and win the league this time.”
“By doing so, I think we’ll be able to bring smiles to the faces of people and the fans and club as a whole,” he concluded.
The Ikenne based club have now joined Enyimba who were also kicked out by Libya opponent Benghazi at the Enyimba International stadium, Aba after a goalless draw.
