NWFL defending champions Delta Queens head coach Tosan Blankson has conceded that the team is wary of the threat that will be poised by debutants Ekiti Queens FC ahead of the curtain raiser game scheduled for Wednesday 14th, Nov. 2023.
The highly rated tactician who will be leading on his team on the touchline as they look to kick off their season on a winning path away to the Southwestern opponent has sounded a stern warning to his players while also allaying that they won’t dwell on past glory as they aim for greater campaign in the new season.
“Yes we are defending Champions and that is now history, we have put that behind us immediately the season ended. There’s an adage in football that says, you are as good as your last match. That season has passed. Football is football, the only difference will be the formation the team will be playing now because some players left and very few came in”, Blankson highlighted in an interview with speedysportsng ahead of the game.
Speaking further on the debutants threat, he allayed, “they maybe new as clubs in the NWFL but they are not new in players that will be paraded because most of the players are tested players on their own. They have played big clubs before joining these promoted clubs”.
“The game against Ekiti Queens will be very tough, like you said they are debutant. Ekiti Queens as a name is new in the league but the players are not new in the system. But I tell you victory is assured, they will be respected”, he confidently emphasized.
Commenting on the newly recruited players following the exit of influential figures in the title conquest run last season, Blankson admitted that indeed they brought in new faces but not as many.
He cleared – “after the season few players left and we are aware of the positions, so recruiting any new player must be positions that those players that left are playing. So it’s very easy to integrate them into the fold”.
Further developments as made known by the league body is the groundbreaking development for women’s football enthusiasts with the eagerly awaited NWFL 2023–24 premiership season opener clash between Ekiti Queens F.C and Delta Queens to be broadcast live since the league’s inception in 1990 on afrosport.tv the official broadcasting partner for the NWFL 2023–24 season.
Also, the Nigeria Football Federation Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, NWFL boss Nkechi Obi and other dignitaries will be gracing the NWFL opening game in Ekiti as they will be welcomed by the Chief host, the Ekiti State First Lady, Dr.Oyebanji.
